Notes and Updates from SAP

If you are using process models to run H99_REPLACEMENT_POSTING_FRAME to account for replacement checks, look at note 2763084. The new functionality allows you to check the status of multiple posting runs in a process model checkpoint; if any document fails the test then the checkpoint is enabled. Prior to this, only the first posting run was checked, which is a problem since multiple runs could get created.

If you have employees in Ohio and use Tax Reporter for the W-2 processing, look at note 2757050. In some cases, the FIPS code is missing on employee records, which will cause your filing to be rejected.

Remember the new Washington state Paid Family & Medical Leave tax? There's another correction - note 2768221 - looks like this might be going on for a while.

Note 2755851 has a tip for improving the performance of the Pre-DME program. There is a number range that, if not created, could be slowing the program.

Around the Web

California is changing the rules for overtime calculations on agriculture workers. Overtime will now be after 9.5 hrs/day or 55 hrs/wk.

The US Department of Labor (DOL) is taking feedback on changing the exempt salary threshold to $679/wk from $455/wk. It is scheduled to take effect Jan 1 2020. In most large companies payroll isn't responsible for identifying and maintaining this classification on employees, so work with your HR colleagues to determine the impact.

SAP SuccessFactors has posted a very high level video on Employee Central Payroll to YouTube. Apparently it solves all your payroll problems. Contact your SAP SuccessFactors rep or us if you have any questions on how EC Payroll could apply to your company. Of course it's a great product, but the details are still important, and the quality of the end result depends a lot on the quality of your implementation.

And finally - if you have support for your country-implementation of SAP Payroll coming from another country, this article will be interesting. There are risks that local compliance requirements will be overlooked or incorrectly applied because the support organization doesn't understand the country well enough. This isn't a problem with every outsourced/remote model, but it is, in our experience, more likely than not.

Quote of the Moment

"The man who is denied the opportunity of taking decisions of importance begins to regard as important the decisions he is allowed to take." -- C. Northcote Parkinson
