SAP Payroll Insights - 27 July 2020

Welcome to the SAP Payroll Insights newsletter by Insight Consulting Partners! This newsletter is focused on SAP and Employee Central (EC) Payroll features, news, tips & tricks and general industry information.

Notes and Updates from SAP

Notes 2926221 has updates for the US Form 941 to incorporate new COVID-19 related items; the American Payroll Association has more information about those changes. The 941 changes for Puerto Rico are detailed in note 2942430.

Also for the US, note 2936124 has changes to allow US payroll users to save their W-4 form with the filing status as optional for tax-exempt employees.

US Payroll customers remember to upgrade to BSI 11 before the end of the year. See note 2760305 to get started, and remember that depending on which HRSP you are at, there will be additional notes to apply. Every customer I know of who upgraded to BSI 11 has had to apply notes, and a few had testing issues SAP resolved (with more notes). So don't underestimate the effort, get started and get it tested!

A while ago SAP released a note for Wagetype Reporter to correct the selection of payrolls with mid-period WPBP splits; now there's another note to correct some reporting on those mid-period splits - 2936680.

This is a good tip - how to debug validation rules in Payroll Control Center (PCC) - see note 2951052. This reminds me of some advice from an SAP Payroll developer when I was first learning the product: The truth is in the code

And for those with payroll in Brazil, note 2825040 details steps for clearing out the eSocial database in SAP. This is good, and needed to get your test system in sync with the government's test systems, but never, never run this in your production system!

And finally, I've found a lot of people who are not aware of SAP's influence/innovation platform. Customers can submit innovations and enhancements, SAP reviews them, we vote for the ones we like and sometimes they get put into the standard system. See this link for a list of the current items for EC Payroll, and votes for the ones you like! I wish I didn't see so many compliance-related items there; compliance should be standard and delivered, not requested as an enhancement.

Around The Web

The Global Payroll Management Institute has some survey results on global payroll that are interesting to review. Not a lot of surprises there for me, but it is interesting to see where your global payroll environment is in comparison to others.

Some companies are returning workers to the workplace - others are not, or have delayed plans. This article from McKinsey is a good one for the considerations of making such a move.

SAP Insider Online is going to host a webinar on how top HR leaders are responding to workplace disruption - the timing is TBD so register and keep an eye out for it.
