Welcome to the SAP Payroll Insights newsletter by Insight Consulting Partners! This newsletter is focused on SAP and Employee Central (EC) Payroll features, news, tips & tricks and general industry information.
Notes and Updates from SAP
It's time to start preparing for year-end in US payroll. SAP's note 2954621 has the usual relevant information. SAP is maintaining it's traditional year-end blog too. You can download the ASUG slide deck too if you want.
Find the right starting point for your Payroll Control Center (PCC) platform via note 2980075. Be sure to also check out the new Configuration Workbench for PCC.
Customers who run off-cycle adjustment payrolls might want to check to make sure retroactive changes are being displayed properly. Note 2980462 corrects an issue with that, and it looks like that was caused by note 2854103.
Another off-cycle payroll note to consider is 2971866. For example, you run an on-demand regular before the regular payroll run. When the regular run is done and it comes across the employee with that on-demand regular, it produces an error - it should just put a message out and skip it. That is what this note implements.
For US payroll customers, note 2973907 is a good resource for understanding how SAP processes reciprocity among local tax authorities. A complex topic, for sure, particularly as more people are working from home.
Note 2973380 has updates for the US Form 941 - if you are using Tax Reporter to get your quarterly Federal tax numbers be sure to get this one applied.
The year-end note for Canadian payroll is 2971350 - be sure to follow it if you are paying in Canada. Note 2959218 also has good tips on finding more information.
If you are using EC Payroll, EC or PCC be sure to also check out the 2H2020 release notes. The release is in preview now and will be in production in a couple weeks.
Around The Web
I started a new podcast focused on payroll, with my friend and colleague Nina Scott at Omnia Global Partners. It's called Payroll Insights, of course. I focus on the tech side and she's an expert on operations. I hope you find it worthwhile! And I have to mention a new payroll podcast from Imran Sajid too - Rethinking HR and Payroll for the Modern Workforce. Imran is focusing on SAP and EC payroll technology, as he should since he is a Global Director for payroll at SAP! So listen to both, subscribe to both if you want.
We also have a few recent SAP HCM Insights podcasts - on EC Payroll implementations, the 2H2020 SuccessFactors release, and SAP's Identity Authentication System (IAS).
Jeremy Masters and the crew at WorkLogix have started blogging a lot of great content on SuccessFactors. Be sure to check it out!
The US Social Security wage base is increasing to $142,800 for 2021. The standard year-end updates from SAP will update SAP and EC Payroll, but if you have some custom calculations that included these limits be sure to update them. Take a look in the payroll contants tables T511K and T511P as well as Limits on Deductions in the IMG.
There are several new products and services in the payroll market that enable employees to get advances on their accrued, but not yet paid, earnings. Some call it 'continuous payroll' but I call it an automated payroll advance. I've wondered about the impact of these programs. They do cost less for employees compared to payday loans, for example. They are not expensive for employers to implement and are low-risk. There is a new study out that says these programs also reduce turnover, and we know that turnover can be expensive.
Quote of the Moment
"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” -- Socrates
Have a great day!
