SAP Payroll Insights - 07 May 2020

Welcome to the SAP Payroll Insights newsletter by Insight Consulting Partners! This newsletter is focused on SAP and Employee Central (EC) Payroll features, news, tips & tricks and general industry information.

Special note to our subscribers: This is a challenging time for SAP and EC Payroll groups all around the world. Responding to new regulations and integrating them into your system and processes can be difficult. If you need help, let us know - we will help where we can and help find others who can do so where we can't.

Notes and Updates from SAP

Just a quick reminder - the 1H 2020 SuccessFactors release is out, and there are a number of payroll-related changes. Use the What's New Viewer to browse through the changes. There are a also number of EC Time & Attendance features that are described in a blog from SAP. Check out note 2907140 for information on Data Replication Monitor 2.0 - looks worthwhile. Do your release testing and enable new features in Preview now.

In Australian payroll, there's note 2919474 describing a superannuation calculation error of 1 cent when there is a retroactive WPBP split. Yes, in SAP Payroll we care about 1 cent differences and errors, and really geek out on retroactive WPBP splits. It's true.

Remember the 'new' W-4 form for 2020 in US Payroll? As we know, some states based some of their tax withholding rules on the Federal W-4 form, so they have made adjustments. And of course not all states are responding the same way. SAP has a Legal Change for this, as well as a notes describing how it implemented the changes - start with 2916238 and work backwards through some of the prerequisites.

SAP issued note 2917910 for its part in implementing the new BSI tax types for US Payroll compliance on the FFCRA and CARES acts, accompanied by a blog about it. Most of this doesn't apply to employers with more than 500 employees, so probably not much of a concern to most companies using SAP/EC Payroll in the US.

SAP also has a planned legal change for 12 May to enhance some US garnishment transactions, to more easily allow customers to mass-change garnishment statuses. This will help customers respond to the CARES act that temporarily suspends student loan garnishments.

For other COVID-19 related payroll information, check out my blog COVID-19 Resources for SAP & EC Payroll. Also be sure to monitor SAP's blog on COVID-19 Legal Changes Monitoring. Employers in the US can use the American Payroll Association's page that pulls together regulations and resources: COVID-19 Hot Topics. If you have additional resources please visit the blog and leave a comment or email them to me - thanks!

Around The Web

SAP started its virtual SAPPHIRE NOW event with some 'thought leadership' videos.

The Global Payroll Management Institute (GPMI) annual conference is also going virtual this year, 2-5 June.

Imran Sajid at SAP has put together a good blog on the 1H 2020 changes for EC Payroll. In addition to the new information he provides a lot of useful links to additional information on ECP - great work!

Raven Intel has put together a report on its research into how COVID-19 is impacting current and future HR technology projects. Also check out their article Four Things To Do While Your Software Project is on Pause Due to COVID-19.

SAP Press has a new book out on integrating SAP SuccessFactors... to SAP ERP, SAP HANA, and third-party systems. This is an often overlooked and under-estimated part of projects these days. It can just get very complicated to bridge the data models and technologies. This book is a good start on getting on top of that.

SAP Insider posted the results of their payroll research: State of the Market: Payroll and Its Impact on Cloud HR. It's free to download, and worth the time to read. I was able to provide some insight on that research, as well as more in-depth perspective on preparing to implement EC Payroll.
